This article review social and political ideals of Germain de Stael – one of the famous European women-professional writer and the author of several political writings published in the ХVIII century. Madame de Stael's ideas on the importance of political institutions for the development of literature, as well as of the importance of civic education for civil liberties remain highly relevant in the xxI century, and are virtually unknown to Russian readers.
