Literary dream: between narratology and genre studies

The article discusses the necessity of exploring character’s dream as insertion form using methods as narratology and genre studies. It covers the following aspects of the poetics of literary dreams, the analysis of which directs the researcher to the issue of the art work genre affliction: combining character-dreamer functions of subjects of speech, vision and action; distinction between dreaming and the “real” incarnations of the character (for example, prophetic and “unannounced” dreams); narrative structure of dreams and different ways of the text’s representation.
