The author presents an analysis of the scientific and life path of Nadezhda Alexandrovna Soboleva, Doctor of Historical Sciences (1935-2023), a recognized specialist in the field of auxiliary historical disciplines - heraldry, sphragistics, numismatics, vexillology, a member of the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation, whose name is well known not only to specialists of the former USSR, but also far beyond the borders of modern Russia. Sources. The article is based on the materials of N.A. Soboleva's personal file, stored in the Scientific Archive of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where she worked for more than 40 years. They provided the research with the necessary and representative information about the scientific and life path of the historian during the transition period of our country's development: from the USSR to modern Russia. Relevance. The study of the role of personality in history and national historical science, in particular, does not lose its relevance, given the growing need of modern society to understand the importance of patriotic principles, civic courage and professionalism of those for whom it has become not only a profession, but a part of personal destiny woven into the history of Russia. Research methods. Chronological, comparative-historical and complex methods are used.
