Lobbying in the oil and gas sector of modern Russia

Basing on the analysis of the largest Russian political players’ interests, the article comprehensively examines the main aspects of the existing order in the hydrocarbon sector of the Russian energy sector as a basic element of the Russian economy. Great importance is attended to the events which took place during reform of the Russian political system and market transformations of the economy, when there was a choice of sector`s management model. Consequently, the ratio of private and state control over a strategic resource is one of the main explored question in this paper. The authors consider the reasons, which most significantly influenced the direction of its development and predetermined the processes that are taking place at the present day. The authors touch upon the issues of effective use of oil and gas resources and their role for the future of the country. As a result, the most topical questions here are the problem of innovative development of the oil and gas industry, structural changes, a resource curse applied to Russia and the level of the future world demand for hydrocarbons.
