The article describes the role of the British philosopher Jeremy Bentham in the formation of deontic logic. Bentham proposed an idea of creation of a new logic, the logic of will that would be different from the alethic modal logic. However, he did not develop it systematically. Jeremy Bentham’s logic of will was the precursor of the first deontic system, offered and called Deontic by Ernst Mally. Bentham was the first, who began to speak about subject-relative obligation. The author examines Bentham’s attempts to build the deontic logic.
