Radiot herapy and radiosurgery for stereotactic skull base metastases: literature review and discussion

This paper presents the experience in a combined modality treatment of 12 patients with skull base metastases, who underwent different methods of stereotactic radiation therapy and stereotactic radiosurgery. Adjuvant radiation therapy after neurosurgery was performed in 10 (83,3 %) cases. The regression and metastatic tumor growth control rates were 70 % and the median survival time of the patients was 12,2 months. Surgery in combination with radiation therapy allows the growth of radioresistant tumor metastasis to be controlled for a long time.
