The article is a review of the first commented scientific edition of the book of the Russian religious philosopher and poet of the Silver Age, the greatest symbolist theorist Vyacheslav Ivanovich Ivanov, The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir . Vyach. Ivanov labored on this work during 1928-1949, and considered it “the work of his whole life”, a kind of magnum opus and “spiritual testament”. The book was published jointly by A. L. Toporkov (Doctor of Philosophy, corresponding member of RAS, A. M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the RAS), O. L. Fetisenko (Doctor of Philosophy, Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) of the RAS) and Prof. A. B. Shishkin (Vyacheslav Ivanov Research Center in Rome). The article discusses the internal dialogism of Vyach. Ivanov, which significantly complicated the perception of his literary heritage. It is noted that O. L. Fetisenko did serious textological work, thanks to which the reader for the first time has received a verified text of the book. It is shown that the literary and philosophical commentary prepared by A. L. Toporkov is distinguished by scientific thoroughness and a wide range of sources consulted. In addition, it is consonant with the dialogic structure of Ivanov's thought and takes into account the complex religious-philosophical and cultural-historical context of the work. However, it is premature to speak of an exhaustive hermeneutical reading of The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir . The publication does not put an end to the study of this literary monument of the Russian diaspora, but gives a new impetus to its study. The article outlines some possible paths of further research of the book. Its possible sources are Messianism, sophiology and the concept of the Ecumenical Church of V. S. Solovyov, the mythological drama of R. Wagner, the neo-Slavophilism of V. F. Ern, the Western European medieval legend of the Holy Grail, the Russian legend of the invisible city of Kitezh, etc.
