The paper attempts to show how it is possible to interpret natural-philosophical, psychological and ethical fragments from Macrobius' Commentary on the ‘Dream of Scipio' (the 5th c.) by means of the method of relevant contexts. To this end, Hierocles of Alexandria' Commentary on the Golden Verses of Pythagoras is discussed.
