The Mangut group of the Mongolian gazelle (Procapra gutturosa Pallas, 1777) is one of two resident groups of this antelope in Russia. Its range is located on the border territory of Russia and Mongolia in the upper reaches of the river Onon (Transbaikalia), on the left bank of this river within the steppe landscapes. The prerequisites for the grouping occured since the arrival of migrating gazelle in the winter of 2000/01, but the constant presence of gazelle has been observed since the arrival in 2009-2010. To date, the total number of the group is 9-10 thousand individuals. The group is replenished both due to the reproduction in the “maternity home” located on both sides of the Russian-Mongolian border, and due to the resettlement of part of gazelles from Mongolia.
