The article describes the macro-, meso- and microlevels of engineering research. The important role of micro-level studies of the activity of a machine-building enterprise is shown. It is emphasized that in modern conditions, the restructuring of the enterprise is becoming the most important problem. The basic models of restructuring engineering enterprises are systematized.
