Mass protests in Iran in 2017-2019: reasons, state of events and results

At the end of the 2010s, there have been two episodes of mass protests in Iran. The demonstrators put forward both economic and radical political slogans to overthrow the Islamic regime. An important cause of destabilization was the sharp deterioration in the economic situation of ordinary Iranians. The main protest force was the unemployed and unsettled urban youth. The government's response to the last protests has been much harsher. It is possible to predict high protest activity in the future, but serious political changes are very unlikely.
