The financial situation of the red partisans in the 1930s: the specific and regional aspects of the benefits program (a case of the south of Ossetia)

Based on the Central State Archives of the Republic of South Ossetia, the study reviews the aspects of the financial situation of the Red Partisans, a new social group in the 20th century, for the first time. Having analyzed and compared the materials of the special commissions, partisan organizations and such a unique source as personal questionnaires, letters, notes, statements of the South Ossetian partisans, the author attempts to reconstruct the benefits program applied to former combatants. Its specific and regional aspects are analyzed. It should be noted that there are no studies on the financial support provided for partisans. This paper is the first research on this issue that is based on both unpublished and published materials. In terms of the data available, the author concluded that not all those in need received financial support. It was mainly provided for some Soviet party insiders, their family members and proxies.
