D. Volkov’s materials on the history of Ufa

The article makes an attempt to describe documentary heritage of D.S. Volkov, the head of the city of Ufa from 1874 to 1887, who not only cared about the improvement of the city (he supported establishment of two city banks, a number of public institutions, was one of the initiators of the construction of the Samara-Zlatoust railway), but also left a valuable materials on the history of Ufa region (South Urals) of the middle XVI - early XIX centuries. The author ascertains the sources of historical collection of D.S. Volkov (memoirs and diaries of the old-timers of the city, tsars'' letters, written excerpts from the Moscow archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Moscow Archive of the Ministry of Justice, now - the Russian State Archive of Ancient Documents).
