Media economics studies the economic fundamentals of the media industry andthe economic aspects of the relationship between the media and the state, societyand business. Thus, media economics unites the economic theory and the theory ofmass media. In rapid development of information and communication technologies,media economics is becoming a promising area for theoretical and applied researchof the Russian media market, in particular, television. The authors of the articleexamine the main trends in the development of modern television in the context ofthe media economy, global economic and technological trends. Particular atten-tion is paid to such trends as a decrease in television coverage, digitalization andthe emergence of new video formats. The influence of these trends on the televisionadvertising market is analyzed.
