BRICS media summits: the history of shaping a new information space

The article discusses various scenarios related to the history of preparing for and holding the BRICS media summits. The focus is made on the changes in the composition of participants in these events held from 2015 to 2024, the range of considered issues, as well as the assessments of these forums by government officials and representatives of the political elite of various coun-tries. The author’s semantic analysis of the texts of several final declarations of the BRICS media summits allowed concluding on the problems of shaping a new information space within the BRICS related, inter alia, to the lack of a universally recognized language of communication within the association, as well as different approaches within the BRICS on the issues of infor-mation policy of both individual states and the whole association. The focus is made on the de-clarative nature of many final documents of media summits, which proves the need to improve the mechanisms for preparing for and holding such international forums. The article highlights the special role of China in preparing for and holding the BRICS media summits, as well as the importance of the BRICS Media Summit 2024 held in Moscow.
