Khrushchev's megaproject of boarding schools: from utopia to reality

On the basis of archival documents, the author analyzes the process of creating new educational institutions in the USSR in the second half of the 1950s: boarding schools and reveals the key role of N.S. Khrushchev in this process. Particular attention is paid to such issues as the attitude of the population towards boarding schools, the causes of difficulties in implementing government plans, the daily life of the boarding school in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
