Solving the problem of attracting young scientists and specialists to knowledge-intensive sectors of the national economy is the main factor in the development of an innovative economy. It is most acute in the cities of science and high technology. The paper considers the main mechanisms of attracting and retaining talented youth and highly professional specialists in the cities of science and high technology. The analysis is carried out and it is proved that salary is a key factor of attraction, but not the main one. Additional factors are important for the consolidation of specialists, including the availability of metropolitan services, active agglomeration processes and modern comfortable urban spatial, which includes various aspects of the life of specialists and their families.
