The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the story of M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin “Polkovnitskaya daughter” and the novel of M. V. Krestovskaya “Beyond Life”, which artistically represent one of the most popular in the history of Russian literature of the XIX century type of heroine such as prostitute.
