The geopolitical situation that developed for the Russian Federation in 2022 after the start of the NWO in Ukraine forced it to reconsider existing foreign trade relations with many countries, taking into account their division into “friendly” and “unfriendly”. All this necessitated the need for the Federal Customs Service of Russia to find ways to improve the mechanisms and economic conditions of international customs cooperation. It was revealed that in 2024, representative offices of the Federal Customs Service of Russia were opened in 23 countries, including 4 countries of Northeast Asia, but a representative office of the Federal Customs Service of Russia was not opened in the DPRK. As part of the implementation of the “Turn to the East” strategy in Russia, it is relevant to improve the economic conditions for international customs cooperation between the Russian Federation and the countries of Northeast Asia. A brief description of Russian-North Korean relations is provided, taking into account the sanctions pressure on the DPRK. An assessment of the economic conditions for opening a representative office of the Federal Customs Service of Russia in the DPRK is made. 4 promising areas of cooperation between Russia and the DPRK are highlighted, which can contribute to the opening of a representative office of the Russian Customs Service in the DPRK.
