In the modern world, when new discoveries occur every day, a person does not have enough time to get new knowledge. To free a person from the “routine” and enable him to self-develop, the digital economy is just what is needed. The digital economy is based on the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Federal Law “On Strategic Planning in the Russian Federation” and the program “The Digital Economy of the Russian Federation”. Digitalization opens up the possibility of obtaining new knowledge, expanding horizons, the development of new professions and advanced training. This phenomenon is already rapidly gaining momentum, which, in turn, requires to radically change the approaches to the formation of new knowledge, skills and competencies, which are the basis of human potential, based on modern digitalization requirements. Based on this, there is an acute problem of determining the rural human potential of the agricultural sector, which already suffers from a shortage of highly qualified specialists. A model has been proposed: man - digital economy - knowledge - development, designed to become the basis of the modern model of economic development of the Russian Federation. actual problems of the digital economy formation are considered. A special place is given to the role of human capital in the digitization of social and economic life. New challenges for modern society due to the development of the digital economy are revealed.
