The annual monitoring of the metabolic indices of young men doing their compulsory military service in the North, revealed that the basic feature of metabolism in the examined men in comparison with northerners is the development of hypoglycemia signs in March instead of October-November. In period of spring equinox, with the factor of low temperature still active, the decrease of glucose level is accompanied by the reduction of lactate and triglycerides concentrations, thickness of skin-fatty fold, and indices of gas exchange to minimum values. This testifies to considerable tension in the processes of energy supply of an organism and the increasing role of anaerobic glycolysis in maintaining energy homeostasis.
