The article proposes to consider a metaphor as a pedagogical tool for development of pragmatic competence of learners on the example of analysis of a set of moral, ethic, cognitive, epistemic, cognitive, regulative, metalanguage functions, performed by the metaphor. The object of study is the metaphor in poetic, publicistic, political and scientific texts.
