The article brings to light a metaphorical character of argot functions which is observed due to the comparative analysis of hermeneutic functions performed by the metaphor, the latter thought to influence the word meaning and bring the reality perception of the speaker and the listener together, and typical linguistic functions of the argot vocabulary.
