Treatment outcomes in 86 patients with metastases in the vertebral column (n=51, 59,3 %) and in the long bones of the extremities (n=35, 40,7 %) were analyzed. The 5-year lethality rate after surgery was 100 % when the neopterin level was markedly above normal (11,1 nmol/L and above). The 5-year survival rate was 59,1 % when neopterin level was within the normal reference range (5,0 - 8,5 nmol/l). Increase in neoterpin concentration is an unfavorable prognostic factor indicating tumor progression
