Over the past 8 years, pork production in Russia has grown at a high rate, the domestic market is close to full saturation. But the sanction influence, especially dependence on the import of vaccines and other veterinary drugs, adjusted the growth rate of pork production, contributed to an increase in the cost of pork, and a decrease in the financial stability of pork companies. The purpose of the study was to develop a methodology for analyzing the cost effectiveness of veterinary drugs, as well as to identify ways to optimize costs to increase the competitiveness of pig breeding enterprises. Methods of economic and statistical analysis, comparative and factor analysis were used in the work, two integral indicators were formed. The critical role of the share of costs for veterinary drugs in the cost of final products was revealed, and the impact of their cost on the weight gain and the number of pigs was assessed. An imbalance has been confirmed between the rise in prices for veterinary drugs, significantly outstripping the rise in prices for pork, which requires the search for effective cost optimization models and alternative solutions in veterinary support. Despite the increase in pork production in Russia, the increase in the cost of veterinary drugs is becoming a limiting factor for the economic efficiency of the industry. To maintain financial stability and competitiveness, it is necessary to optimize the cost of veterinary care, introduce innovative solutions and look for alternatives to imported drugs. This will reduce the increase in the cost of pork and increase the profitability of production.
