In this article, based on the analysis of literary and accumulated data in the course of expert research, as well as using the results of experiments, a comprehensive approach to solving expert problems of classifying plants of harmala vulgaris (Peganum harmala L) as objects of illicit trafficking - plants containing narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances is proposed. The article describes and illustrates the anatomical and morphological features of common harmala plants, proposes a method for the effective extraction of harmala alkaloids from the plant matrix, and presents the conditions and results of their determination by chromatography-mass spectrometry.
