Methodological principles of content selection of learning a foreign language on the example of authentic English song music

The article deals with learning foreign languages with the help of English authentic songs. We explain the grounds of including English authentic songs in the teaching content and why they are valuable in teaching English. Teaching content is understood differently by different authors, but the fundamental concepts to be mentioned remain those of language and discourse. Teaching foreign languages should be based on sociocultural context. In this regard we need an instrument having the following features: availability of sociocultural and linguistic information; opportunity for the students to work independently; authenticity; potential for time saving; emotional setting; producing positive attitude towards the subject, learning process, self-development and self-education; promoting respect for other cultures; seeking new ways and methods; enhancement of creative thinking. In the article consideration will be given to the relevance and possibility of using authentic songs, basis for their selection to form country-specific, learning and cognitive interests.
