Methodology of two-dimensional typologization of rural territories by regions of the Russian Federation

The article reveals the role of typologization of rural areas as the most important scientific method of systematization and generalization of information in the system of regional development studies. The article describes the methodology of two-dimensional typologization of rural areas in the regional context. The primary grouping feature is the density of the rural population, and the secondary one is the level of socio-economic development of rural territories. The article proposes an algorithm for a comprehensive assessment of the main essential characteristics of socio-economic development: demographic, economic and social. A system of private statistical indicators has been developed for each direction, adapted to the modern realities of the domestic economy and available statistical information. Formulas for calculating summary indicators characterizing various parameters of socio-economic development of rural areas, as well as an integral indicator, are presented.
