Methodology for the Formation of Indices for Assessing the Strategic Potential of Enterprises in the Metallurgical Industry

A pressing task in modern science is the statistical assessment of the strategic potential of enterprises in the metallurgical industry based on a set of various indicators. Several approaches to assessing strategic potential exist. The author has developed a system of universal and industry-specific statistical indicators reflecting the structure of the strategic potential of metallurgical enterprises. This system consists of a general indicator and six sub-indicators characterizing the financial and economic, environmental, human resources, investment and innovation, production and technological, and organizational and managerial components of strategic potential. The general and sub-indicators are determined based on initial values using principal component analysis (PCA). The obtained results confirm the presence of an industry-wide crisis of strategic potential in 2021–2023 at Russian metallurgical enterprises, accompanied by a general trend toward declining integral values across all companies.
