The article proposes a strategy for maintaining the performance of a complex technical system. Complex technical systems include elements with different parameters and characteristics. In order to minimize the excessive maintenance of a complex technical system in which interference with the functioning of a serviceable system element is not necessary, and often harmful, it is necessary to divide the elements of a complex technical system into groups based on the type of maintenance performed on them. The article identifies three types of maintenance: scheduled maintenance (which is characterized by a mandatory volume of operations at planned points in time), maintenance by condition (unplanned maintenance, carried out as a result of continuous or periodic monitoring of parameters) and maintenance by failure (unplanned maintenance – actually repair). The presented methodology regulates the choice of the type of maintenance for the elements of a complex technical system.
