Possible correlations between dynamics of common metallothionein (or their certain isoforms) with other clinical and biochemical marker tests can characterize the severity of the neurodegenerative disease process, including schizophrenia. Methodological aspects of the assessment of the level of metallothioneins in studying the metabolic basics of neurodegenerative diseases such as schizophrenia, can be splited into: 1) the study of the correlations with oxidative stress parameters (uner the spontaneous and metal-induced oxidation of proteins and lipids); 2) analysis of correlations to tests of endotoxemia; 3) revelation of trends in the dynamics in patients with different degrees of the pathological process.
