Methodological problems in archeographical study of Buddhist book culture in Buryatia

Social archeography is based on the system analysis of book cultures in three levels: 1) a level of ritual culture of ordinary person; 2) a level of ideology; 3) a level of the social organization. For two years (2007-2008) archeography expedition has been studied traditional book culture of 29 villages in Buryatia. Researchers of the group have made 300 photos, some video-clips (400 minutes), have taken interview at more than 80 persons, have created the electronic catalogue of rare Buddhist editions (250 items). Undoubtedly the Buddhist hook in Buryatia as a part of local monastic culture had essential differences from book culture of ordinary person. The major characteristic of the Buddhist literature of the ordinary person of Buryatia is ritual. Therefore books of the ordinary person represent basically the Buddhist Canon (Kagyur). Practically in all cases presence Suvamaprabhasasottama-sutra, Pancaraksha, Ashtasahasrika-prajnaparamita, Sundui, Tarpachenpo.
