The methods for the quantitative determination of wear in burnt oil are considered. The concentration of wear products in the crankcase oil is characterized by the wear of engine parts. The basic advantages and disadvantages of the methods for determining the wear products in burnt oil are revealed. A common drawback is the difficulty of identifying the wear rate of individual interfaces. Donors of wear products are engine parts. The iron content in the oil is constantly changing during the operation process. A quantitative indicator is the "mass fraction of iron in the oil." Promising ways of estimating the mass fraction of iron in the oil, and the results of practical experiments for the selection of oil samples from the engine crankcase and oil deposits from the jet centrifuge are presented.
