Methods of maintaining and regulating voltage in rural electric networks

This article examines modern methods and technical means of regulating voltage in rural electrical grids. It provides an overview of methods, techniques, and technical means, including changing the transformer transformation ratio under load, regulating reactive power flow using compensating devices, as well as load management and the use of additional generation sources. System options for automating regulation processes, ensuring voltage stability, and generally maintaining power supply quality are discussed. Local and centralized methods, their advantages and limitations, are analyzed. This article may be useful to specialists involved in power supply and utility system maintenance interested in optimizing electrical grid operation.
