International film co-production in Russia: essence, classification and state regulation

This article analyzes the problems of co-production in cinematography on thebasis of classification and typology. It develops the authors’ systematization of theco-production concept, co-production classification and its typology. The authorsdetermine the factors affecting the co-production implementation possibility,state regulation measures of co-production in the Russian Federation. The paperdescribes the activities of Russia in a number of international organizations, whoseactivity is focused on cooperation between the two countries. The article providesa list of business platforms operating in recent years in Russia which contribute tothe development of cinematography, increase of foreign producers’ interest in thedomestic industry, the producers’ involvement for joint production, and the creationof new co-productions. The authors identify the main problems and constrainingco-production factors.
