Extensive available material on subjects, including those proposed by the researchers of the Republic of Buryatia, has been studied. Representatives of the Russian Geographical Society (WGI) and its East Siberian Division (WSRG) played a significant role at an early stage in the study of the region. The particular value of the WGI’s work lies in the organization of expeditions and the publication of research results of its members. Geographical discoveries of Russians in the development of trade routes based on the original routes of the «Great Tea Way» have been sanctioned by the state policy of the «Russian Geographical Society» and the General Staff of the Russian Army to command and finance numerous scientific expeditions. One of the aims of this article is to analyze the history of the formation and possibilities of the revival of the Tea Way within the framework of cooperation, the purpose of which is to exploit the god-made cultural and historical heritage of the vast territory of Eurasia, related to the long era of this trade route. The topicality of the topic is explained by the increased interest in the development of the «One Belt - One Way» project of the Eurasian international community in recent years, including within the framework of the strategic triangle of Russia - China - Mongolia, and the countries of the Korean peninsula.
