This article discusses the grounds and sequence of the introduction and lifting of economic and scientific sanctions against Iran. The authors demonstrate the neofunctional spillover of the consequences of economic sanctions into the research and technological sphere of Iran. More attention is paid to the characteristics of the types of sanctions that affected Iran's participation in international scientific and technical cooperation. The article substantiates that various sectors of scientific and scientific and technical activity suffered from them, which in a certain sense had a negative impact on world science as a whole. However, this kind of sanctions, in principle, did not achieve their goals in full. On the contrary, they led to something opposite - to the activation of Iran's scientific and technological policy, including in the sphere of participation in international cooperation. As a result, significant scientific results have been achieved, but their scale could have been more significant if there had been no sanctions regime.
