Interethnic and interconfessional relations in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous okrug - Yugra: tensions and prerequisites for harmonization

The study discusses the challenges of interethnic and interconfessional relations in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra. It analyzes the views of experts on Orthodox-Islamic interaction and the opinions of citizens on the role of the clergy in the public life of their settlements. The authors consider the risks of disseminating religious fundamentalist information, the conflict-prone factors in the relationship between the host community and migrants, the attitudes of people towards particular religious communities in the region. The study examines the role of public institutions (media, ethnic and cultural institutions, religious communities, education system, local government) in creating the favorable and unfavorable environment for the development of interethnic and interconfessional relations. The paper reveals the problems of preventing the interethnic and interconfessional conflicts faced by local government.
