The intergenerational care in families of rural migrants in Buryatia: gender aspect

Basing upon the empiric data obtained in the Republic of Buryatia the article considers the intergenerational childcare in extended Buryat families. It is noted, that the intergenerational relations, assistance and care are especially relevant on the background of scarce institutional childcare services from the state (for example, insufficient number of places in kindergartens). The author distinguishes two forms of involvement of older generation representatives (grandmothers) in the process of child-rearing: formal grand-parenthood and substitute parenthood. It is concluded that the elder generation support solidarity between the middle and the younger generations.
