The paper emphasizes the ambiguity and inconsistency of migration processes. Most scientists, both domestic and foreign, note that there is neither unity in understanding the essence of population migration, nor common approaches to its study. Representatives of all social sciences paid attention to the study of this unusually complex phenomenon. Despite the fact that the theory and methodology of migration are emphatically interdisciplinary in nature, migration has not yet been singled out as an independent and full-fledged social science, and therefore, approaches to the study of migration are different depending on the discipline within which these processes are considered. Particular attention is paid to the concept of the migration attractiveness of the territory and the factors that can influence it. In modern conditions of socio-economic development of territories, a huge mass of people move from one place of residence to another in search of a safer and more prosperous, comfortable life. This has a significant impact on the size and demographic structure of the population of many territories, on regional and local labor markets. A rapid change in the working-age population of a particular territory due to migration processes, as a rule, leads to an imbalance in supply and demand in the labor markets and disproportions in the socio-economic development of Russian regions. In this regard, increasing the migration attractiveness for many territories of Russia is of great importance, since the migration outflow of the population from strategically important regions is acquiring a threatening character for the state.
