Based on the historical and anthropological approach, the authors reconstructed the biography of Mikhail Semenovich Tyunin (1865-after 1945), who was a renowned entrepreneur and public figure in the pre-revolutionary history of the Kama region. The novelty of this study is the combination of two periods in the biography of M.S. Tyunin (the pre-revolutionary and post-revolutionary ones) into a single life story. The article presents new data on the history of his family (the members, the fate of relatives). In the context of Russian historical process and on the basis of the analysis of personal documents found in the archives of Prague, Moscow and Khabarovsk (memoirs, autobiographies, personal files), the authors explained why M.S. Tyunin moved to Siberia (Tomsk (1918), Krasnoyarsk (1920)) and Harbin (1923). The paper provides new information about the activities of M.S. Tyunin in the Central Library of the Chinese Eastern Railway (CER) (1925-1933). It shows his role in the development of Russian bibliography in Harbin. The authors have followed his life after the sale of the CER (1935) and getting a passport of the emigrant (up to 1945). It is concluded that the fate of M.S. Tyunin is the repetition of the fate of millions of people in Russia who have experienced the tragic consequences of the events of the Civil War. The Civil War tore apart the life of M.S. Tyunin on individual episodes, some of which have been temporarily forgotten by subsequent generations.
