Soft x-ray of the night earth atmosphere (Coronas-F experiment)

The RPS-1 spectrometer aboard the Coronas-F was supposed to study solar X-ray in the 3-31.5 кэВ band by means of a cadmium telluride detector with a thermoelectric microcooler to obtain the best resolution. At the orbit sections located in the Earth shade the instrument registered X-rays of the upper atmosphere. At high latitudes and in the area of the inner radiation belt in the South Atlantic abnormality the instrument registered signals produced by energetic particles.
