The article presents an analysis of the economy of Myanmar as a subject of the world and regional economy, and at the same time as a foreign economic partner of the Russian Federation under sanctions. The relevance of the article is connected with the growing importance of cooperation with Myanmar and the leading Asian countries - China and India, with the strengthening of its position in ASEAN and the possibilities of strengthening bilateral cooperation with the Russian Federation. The purpose of the article is to characterize the country’s position in the global economy, in the regional economic system and to show the main directions and prospects for the development of Russian-Myanmar cooperation today and in the future - based on the national interests of the two countries whose economies are under pressure from Western sanctions. The article uses traditional methods of economic research - analysis and synthesis, unity of historical and logical, comparative and institutional approach. The author comes to the conclusion that due to the intensification of the process of deglobalization, the gradual but steady decline in the share and role of developed countries in the world economy, as well as global trends such as digitalization, Myanmar has the opportunity to activate and stabilize socio-economic development in the medium term. An important factor in this process may be the development of trade and economic cooperation between Myanmar and the Russian Federation and the EAEU in general in a number of areas, among which energy occupies an important place.
