Early-growing (April 1-10), medium-growing (April 11-12) and late-growing candidate varieties (April 12-30) were identified. Promising genotypes were revealed according to onion ontogenetic stages. A long period of “growth - bolting” was found in the following candidate varieties: onion Altayskiy Nos. 60 and 61 (45-50 days); Welsh onion Nos. 15, 22, 25 (45-47 days); Siberian chives No. 51 (50 days). The morphological characteristics of the candidate varieties were given. On the basis of the overall indices, a promising candidate onion variety Altayskiy-61/98 was selected, successfully passed the State Variety Testing and released as Viktor variety.
