This research paper examines the phenomenon of economic sanctions as a coercive instrument in international relations. Based on historical analysis covering the period from Napoleon's Continental System to modern regimes, the fundamental limitations of sanctions' effectiveness in achieving political goals, especially in relation to stable states, are proven.
