SIMULATION OF OPERATION OF A GRIDLESS ION GATE FOR AN ION MOBILITY SPECTROMETER

The results of simulating the creation of an ion packet at atmospheric pressure using a gridless two-electrode ion gate — which is simple to fabricate and readily adaptable to an ion drift spectrometer — are presented in this study. If a second gate is installed in the drift chamber at the proper opening time in relation to the first gate, it improves the separation of partially overlapping peaks in the spectrum, demonstrating that a gridless twoelectrode ion gate can be used most effectively in the mode of double sequential ion separation.
