The present study attempts to evaluate the contribution of various factors to coronary heart disease mortality rates based on econometric modelling, including the use of panel data with fixed and random effects. A significant negative effect has been found for the variables characterizing the number of doctors, sex composition of the population, marriage rate, and income level, while a statistically significant positive effect has been confirmed for such variables as proportion of elderly population, divorce rate, and proportion of urban population. In some cases, potential reasons for the lack of a statistically significant effect of certain factors, such as tobacco consumption, are described and directions for further research are outlined. The results obtained allow to assess the extent to which regional programs aimed at combating mortality rates from various types of cardiovascular diseases are tailored to the specific features of the federal subjects, and also demonstrate potential directions for increasing their level of targeting.
