Modernization in the postmodern era

The article deals with the problem of modernization in the new historical conditions that arose at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. This is a struggle for world hegemony between the United States and emerging China, the growing ambitions of transnational corporations and international financial centers, the depletion of natural resources, the transformation of elections from the institution of political representation of interests into a mechanism for manipulating the public conscience and the way to legitimize political power. The author clarifies the notion of political modernization concludes that under the prevailing conditions in the postmodern era western society, formed in the second half of the 20th century as an attractive model, not only exhausted its leadership potential, but also brought humanity to a dangerous line. The Chinese model can become a new attractive model of a modern society of the 21st century. Russia is also able to go through a new primary modernization.
