This paper is devoted to the process of formation and development of the Young Communist League (Komsomol) in Buryat-Mongolia in the 1920s. The particular attention is paid to the analysis of the reasons for participation/non-participation of youth in the Komsomol activities, outlined the contours of her social activism and social apathy. Of the total mass of the young generation of the 1920s several typological groups are revealed: supporters of the old traditional habits, rejecting socialist innovations, activists and passive conformists, confined on their own behalf. Social and political views of young people were largely transient in nature. On the one hand, initiated by the Bolsheviks the process of alienation from the real past of Russia went on, on the other hand - its most important elements remained in the minds of all youth groups, particularly in peasants.
