The article discusses the role of youth in the development of small business. The author analyzes the empirical data obtained in the course of sociological study, the purpose of which was to investigate students’ views on the entrepreneurship development in Novosibirsk: pace and level of small business development; obstacles hindering its development; willingness of students to engage themselves in the entrepreneurial activity; priority areas for starting a business and necessary support. The reasons for unwillingness of students to start their own business are also considered. It is concluded that there is a need for development of the youth entrepreneurship on the federal level.
